These are some of the new pieces that I exhibited with Sherrie Gallerie @ SOFA this year. Chicago was a blast and I saw some amazing art work at this show. Photos by Terry Brown.
Hello Julie! I'm so glad we got one of these :o) YAY! So nice to meet you! Thanks for commenting on my post about your teapot! Greetings from Chicago, Melanie.
The content of my work is directly influenced by the architectural and historical surroundings in the places where I live, combined with a dedication to sculpting narratives in miniature environments. Working with porcelain I illustrate places where you can see the intricate entanglements of history in thick layers, while challenging the popular reputation of the medium.
The little isolated worlds I create are inspired by waking life observations and guided by dream imagery. The imagery currently includes local buildings, homes, abandoned places, trees, subterranean levels, and archeology. Working with the porcelain I personify these inert objects to portray social and interpersonal relationships in an accessible manner.
